Africa Makes History as Ghana Hosts 10th World Assemblies of God Congress

ACCRA, Ghana — October 14–17, 2026 — For the first time in its 115-year history, the World Assemblies of God Fellowship (WAGF) held its Triennial World Congress on African soil, as more than 10,000 delegates from about 100 nations converged on Accra for three days of worship, teaching and impartation under the theme "Expansion: Empowered for Kingdom Mission."

Delegates filled the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre for plenary sessions, workshops and panels, while free evening revival rallies drew capacity crowds to the Accra Sports Stadium — open to the Ghanaian public. The congress was hosted by Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, and chaired by Rev. Dominic Yeo, WAGF Chairman and General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Singapore, who first launched the event at a ceremony in Accra in November 2025.

The Speakers

  • President John Dramani Mahama — President of the Republic of Ghana, himself a member of the Assemblies of God, Ghana — addressed delegates, delivering the keynote at the closing ceremony.
  • Rev. Dominic Yeo — WAGF Chairman, who framed the congress around God's mandate for global kingdom expansion.
  • Rev. Stephen Wengam — Congress host, who challenged the movement to "re-dig the wells of prayer," calling the fellowship back to the Pentecostal movement's founding altar of intercession.
  • Rev. Doug Clay — General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God USA and WAGF Vice-Chairman.
  • Rev. Juan Carlos Escobar — WAGF Secretary and President of the Executive Council of the Federation of the Assemblies of God of Spain.
  • Bishop Dag Heward-Mills — Founder of the United Denominations, one of Ghana's most widely read Christian authors.

Guest Song Ministers

The worship lineup drew three of Africa's and the world's most celebrated gospel voices: Sinach — who led worship with a mass choir — Dunsin Oyekan, and Ghana's own Joe Mettle, all ministering at the evening stadium rallies.

The Big Announcement

At the closing ceremony, Rev. Wengam announced that global Assemblies of God membership has now reached 89.9 million adherents across more than 450,000 local assemblies in over 180 nations — solidifying the fellowship's position as the largest Protestant denomination in the world.
