Upcoming Christian Movies 2026: What's Still Coming to Theaters
It has already been a remarkable year for faith-based cinema, and the final stretch of 2026 may be its strongest yet. From biblical epics to the true story behind one of America's most beloved actors, theaters are filling with stories of faith, forgiveness, and hope between now and Christmas. Here are the Christian movies still to come in 2026, plus a look at what is already on the horizon for 2027.
Seniors — October 23
When a rebellious high school senior is sentenced to court-ordered community service at a retirement home, the last thing he expects to find is a friend. A chance encounter with a troubled war veteran turns obligation into an unlikely bond, as both men confront the pasts they have been running from and discover it is never too late to find purpose, healing, and hope.
Sight & Sound Theatres: Joshua LIVE! — October 30
Filmed in front of a live audience at Sight & Sound, this special theatrical event follows the people of Israel through an unforgiving wilderness as Joshua is called to replace Moses as their leader. With dwindling supplies, approaching armies, and one last fortified city standing between the Israelites and the Promised Land, Joshua's trust in God's plan is put to the ultimate test in one of the Bible's most redemptive stories.
Drummer Boy — November 6
Four-time Grammy winners for KING + COUNTRY bring an epic musical to the big screen: two brothers are driven onto opposite sides of the American Revolutionary War, and with loyalty caught in the crossfire, each must decide who he will become as the fight for freedom becomes a battle for forgiveness. The film releases through Angel Studios.
Jimmy — November 6
Also arriving November 6 is the untold, transformative story of America's most beloved actor. After winning the Academy Award for Best Actor in The Philadelphia Story, Jimmy Stewart enlisted as a combat pilot and rose to Colonel in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, only to return home disheartened and defeated. Then George Bailey and It's a Wonderful Life came calling. Jimmy traces the iconic role that saved him.
God With Us — November 13
A modern-day parable told with heart, humor, and soul: a young woman in an impossible position, a young man torn between trust and faith, and a birth that could change the world. Childhood sweethearts Mary Anne Thomas and Joseph "Junie" Love embark on a divine mission in this gripping drama about grace, growth, and the power of unconditional love.
Zero A.D.: The Birth of Christ — December 11
The year's biggest faith release comes from director Alejandro Monteverde (Sound of Freedom). Zero A.D. tells the untold origin of a revolution: a newborn child ignites a prophetic war as a ruthless prince seeks to crush the prophecy that threatens his father's rule. Before kings and empires feared Him, a tyrant sought to erase Him. Expect this one to dominate the Christmas box office conversation.
And Don't Miss: The Chosen, Season 6 — November 15
While it is a series rather than a film, The Chosen remains the gravitational center of faith-based entertainment. Season 6, subtitled with the warning "Before the sun sets, Jesus will be dead," streams on Prime Video beginning November 15, with the first three episodes dropping together and subsequent episodes following weekly. The season culminates in a full-length theatrical release, The Chosen Crucifixion, arriving in theaters March 12, 2027.
A Strong Year Already Behind Us
2026 opened with a wave of notable releases worth catching on streaming or home video: Still Hope (February), a sobering look at human trafficking; the MercyMe sequel I Can Only Imagine 2 (February), with John Michael Finley returning as Bart Millard alongside Milo Ventimiglia and Dennis Quaid; Nate Bargatze's family comedy The Breadwinner (March); Sight & Sound's A Great Awakening on George Whitefield and Benjamin Franklin (April); and Angel Studios' Young Washington (July), released for America's 250th anniversary.
Looking Ahead to 2027
The momentum is not slowing down. Beyond The Chosen Crucifixion, Mel Gibson's long-awaited The Resurrection of the Christ: Part One is currently slated for May 6, 2027, and the inspiring true story Live Like That, about a family that responds to tragedy with forgiveness, opens February 26, 2027.
Whether you are planning a church outing, a family night, or a quiet evening of encouragement, the weeks between now and Christmas offer some of the most ambitious faith filmmaking the genre has ever seen. Check local listings for showtimes, and consider going opening weekend, strong first-week numbers are what keep these stories in theaters.
