Is America Turning Its Back on God?

“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.” – Proverbs 14:34

I write this not as an American, but as a Christian — a brother in Christ, watching from afar with a heavy heart.

America has long stood as a beacon of Christian faith. From the days of the Great Awakenings to the powerful missionaries it has sent around the world, it once stood as a spiritual lighthouse for many nations, including my own. But now, from where I stand, the light seems to be flickering — and growing dimmer.

The question I ask, and I believe many around the world are asking, is this:
Has America turned its back on God?

This is not a political question. It is not about right or left, Republican or Democrat. This is a spiritual concern that affects not only Americans but believers across the globe who have looked to the United States as a spiritual leader in the modern Christian movement.

Disturbing Signs of Spiritual Decline

America’s moral foundations are eroding quickly. It is no longer just about declining church attendance — though that is alarming enough. It is about the aggressive rise of ideologies that are directly opposed to God’s Word:

  • The normalization of sin: What the Bible clearly calls sin is now celebrated in the media, education, and even law.
  • Attacks on biblical values: Christian beliefs on marriage, gender, and life are being branded as “hate speech.”
  • The rise of “progressive Christianity”: More churches are rejecting the authority of Scripture, choosing to reinterpret the Gospel to fit modern ideologies.
  • Entertainment filled with darkness: From music to film, American culture increasingly glorifies the occult, violence, and sexual immorality.

As I scroll through headlines, it is hard to believe that this is the same country that once proudly declared “In God We Trust.”

What Happened to the Nation That Sent Missionaries?

Many of the missionaries who brought the Gospel to Africa, Asia, and South America came from the United States. We still sing hymns written by Americans. We still read commentaries written by your pastors. We still use your Bible study materials.

But now, some of these same churches are silent in the face of sin. Some seminaries are producing pastors who no longer believe in the authority of the Bible. The children of missionaries are walking away from the faith.

We, the global church, are watching. And we are deeply grieved.

Why This Matters to All Christians

The spiritual condition of America matters because its cultural influence is global. The films our children watch, the music they listen to, the platforms they use — they are largely American exports. When America drifts from God, the rest of the world feels it too.

What happens in the American church often sets a trend for churches worldwide.

An Urgent Call to Repentance and Prayer

“Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy hill.” – Joel 2:1

Now is the time for urgent prayer — not just by American believers, but by all who call upon the name of Jesus. We must:

  1. Pray for revival in America: That hearts would be softened, churches would awaken, and leaders would be convicted.
  2. Stand firm in biblical truth: Whether in the U.S. or abroad, we must not compromise with the world.
  3. Raise up the next generation in truth: Parents and pastors must teach young people what the Bible really says — not what the world wants it to say.
  4. Hold leaders accountable: Both spiritual and political leaders need courage and conviction, not popularity.

There Is Still Hope

I believe God has not finished with America. I believe there is a remnant — a faithful group who will not bow to Baal. If you’re reading this and your heart is stirred, then you are part of that remnant.

But we must act now.

The time for comfort-driven Christianity is over. The time for soft sermons and seeker-friendly silence has passed. Now is the time to weep, to fast, to pray, and to speak the truth boldly in love.

“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” – Psalm 11:3

Let us not watch in silence. Let us pray. Let us repent. Let us speak.

Because if America falls spiritually, the world will feel it.

If this message moved you, please share it.
