Cynthia Erivo Cast as Jesus in “Jesus Christ Superstar” at Hollywood Bowl
Cynthia Erivo, a British actress and singer known for her roles in “Wicked” and “Harriet,” has been cast as Jesus in the Hollywood Bowl’s upcoming production of “Jesus Christ Superstar.” The performances are scheduled from August 1 to August 3, 2025, in Los Angeles. The production will be directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo, with musical direction by Tony winner Stephen Oremus.
Erivo, an Emmy, Grammy, and Tony winner, previously portrayed Mary Magdalene in a 2020 all-female version of the musical titled “Jesus Christ Superstar: She Is Risen.” citeturn0news11 She expressed her excitement about the new role on social media, stating, “Just a little busy this Summer.
