Christian Women Celebrate International Women’s Day 2023 with Prayer and Action

On March 8th, 2023, Christian women around the world celebrated International Women’s Day with a focus on prayer and action. Women of faith used the day to reflect on the biblical call to justice and equality, and to mobilize for change in their communities.
In churches and communities around the world, women gathered for prayer vigils and services, lifting up the needs of women and girls who face discrimination and oppression. They prayed for an end to gender-based violence, for economic opportunities for women, and for the empowerment of women in leadership roles.
In some places, women organized service projects and community outreach to address the needs of women and girls. In Brazil, for example, a group of Christian women hosted a day-long event for girls in a local favela, providing meals, education, and health services.
In the United States, Christian women leaders released a statement calling for action on issues like gender-based violence and economic inequality. They urged churches and faith communities to speak out against injustice and to work towards greater inclusion and equity.
The statement read, in part, “As women of faith, we know that God calls us to be agents of justice and compassion in the world. We cannot stand by while our sisters suffer. We must use our voices and our resources to create a world where all women and girls can thrive.”
International Women’s Day 2023 was a powerful reminder of the role that Christian women can play in the fight for gender equality. Through prayer, service, and advocacy, women of faith can make a difference in the lives of women and girls around the world.
