A Man Sentenced to Death For Allegedly Sending Blasphemous Message

It was reported that a 37-year-old, Asif Pervaiz, who has been imprisoned for the past seven years for blasphemy after his former supervisor at his job in a garment factory accused him of sending sacrilegious text messages from his cell phone.

A court in the eastern part of Pakistan,  Lahore sentenced Pervaiz, a Christian man to death for sending a text message which they called it a “blasphemy” to his former supervisor at work in a garment factory.

convert him to become a Muslim which he refused. In Pervaiz’s defense, he said that the man approaches him for quitting his job at the factory in which the man allegedly accused him of sending a blasphemous message.

According to the complaint lawyer, he said that Pervaiz had no defensive approach so he took that false side of the story. Unfortunately for Pervaiz, in Pakistan’s strict blasphemy laws that prescribe a mandatory death penalty for the crime of insulting Islam’s Prophet Muhammad, and strict penalties for other infractions such as insulting Islam, the holy Quran, or certain holy people.

In a statistic by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), almost 80 people in Pakistan alone have been imprisoned for the reason of “blasphemy” in which half of them are currently facing the death of life sentence.
